What is the difference between health insurance and those Health plans they sell for 99.00?

My mom recently bought a health plan for 99.00 a month. It was supposed to cover all of her current doctors, and we come to find out that it doesn't cover any of them. She is now locked in to this so called "health plan" and can not get a straight answer from the company when she calls. All they tell her is that "we are not an insurance company, only a health care plan company".We are really confused. Please help!
Answer:
The Health Discount Scams (oops-I meant to say Health Discount Plans) are mostly a waste of money. If you search the company on the Internet you'll probably find a lot of people that are having problems with them and many lawsuits against them. These companies go out of business all the time. If you do find a doctor that will take the plan you're paying about the same amount as if you paid cash.Unless your mom is un-insurable she should get on a regular health insurance plan. You will need to contact a local independent agent who can search the market and find the best plan for her situation. As an independent health insurance agent I've searched high and low to find a decent discount plan because there are some people who cannot get on a regular health insurance plan. I have finally found ONE but it will cost her more than $99 per month (you get what you pay for).Report the company to the Better Business Bureau. The BBB will try to help you. Unfortunately, you have probably lost all the money you have paid because refunds from these companies are few and far between. If you have an automatic withdraw from the credit card call the credit card company and tell them not to pay anymore.
it aint really insurance - ive tried to tell a coworker that too! its supposedly a "health plan" it is supposed to get you discounts at dr's office and for all this other stuff, tests, labs, etc. but in reality you get nothing! no reputable dr's are associated with these so called plans!
depending on how long ago she signed up, if its with in the 30 day free look period, she can cancel with a full refund. is it taken out of payroll, do you write a check to the company, how are you paying for it. ill check back to see what else you can do.
Maybe they have to choose who she sees. I wonder why they told her they would cover her current doctors though? That sounds beyond stressful, especially if she can't get a freakin' answer from someone. Tell her to threaten whoever she's talking to that she will cancel her plan and that she wants to speak with a supervisor. If she still is not getting anywhere, just don't pay the bill. The "health plan" did not obviously keep their promises so why should she continue to pay? Good luck, I hope you get everything straightened out!
