What is the differance between oxyodone a oxycotin?

Answer:
The ONLY difference between the two is that Oxycontin is an extended release preparation. Oxycodone is Oxycodone whether it's in Percocet, Tylox, Oxycontin, etc. It's NOT derived from Morphine OR Codeine, it is derived from Thebaine, which is one of many alkaloids of the opium poppy. Codeine and Morphine are also alkaloids of the opium poppy, but they are totally different drugs from Oxycodone and Oxycontin. All Oxycontin is is a time-release version of Oxycodone. The person claiming to be an endorsed registered nurse needs to read her PDR Pharmacoepia, be cause both she and the first answerer are entirely incorrect.
Entirely different except that they are both pain medications. Oxycodone is a codeine derivative and oxycontin is a morphine derivative.
Oxycodone usually means an instant release type of the drug oxycodone that comes in 5, 15, 30mg dosages along with a oral liquid formulation. Oxycontin is a time released format of the same drug that comes in 10,20,40 %26 80mg dosage that is supposed to continuously release the drug dosage over an 8-12 hr time frame. Oxycontin is typically used for chronic pain and where as plain oxycodone is often used after surgery or a broken bone. Both drugs contain oxycodone which is a semi-synthetic opiate synthesized from thebaine. Percoset, Tylox and Percodan are oxycodone drugs that also contain tylenol or aspirin along with the oxycodone.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/oxycodone...
RANDOM has the excact right answer and the same as what I was going to write.
