Its a small metal piece of equipment. you shouldn't feel it, not during suregery as you will have had local/general anaestthetic, depending on what you're having done, and it will be inserted after the anaesthetic
It would be very uncomfortable if used without numbing. Afterwards, it may leave some soreness that will pass quickly.
